La Fontana Della Citta

 Penne alla vodka
Chicken francese

Just a few blocks from the Kimmel Center, Merriam Theater, Plays and Players Theater and the Philadelphia arts district is La Fontana Della Citta, a quiet, tried and true Italian Restaurant.

We have enjoyed dining here twice, both times after a show. La Fontana Della Citta is open until midnight, seven days a week, so they are guaranteed to be open after a play at the Merriam Theater.

On this trip, we enjoyed the penne alla vodka and the chicken francese.

The penne alla vodka was delicious with possibly the best vodka sauce I have ever had. It is served with peas and pancetta. The pancetta is perfectly crispy and is delicious with the vodka sauce.

The chicken francese is a huge portion, enough for two people to share, or to take some home for lunch the next day. The chicken is perfectly cooked and is served with angel hair pasta. The lemon sauce is delicious and delicate, and pairs beautifully with the angel hair.

La Fontana Della Citta is beautiful and quiet, and a lovely place for dinner after a show or a special night. It is BYOB, so bring a bottle of your favorite wine! The waiters are very skilled at opening them for you.

La Fontana Della Citta is available for reservations on OpenTable. While we’ve never needed reservations, its always been nice to know we won’t have to wait for a table.
