One the most famous celebrity chefs over the past 20 years is without a doubt Paula Deen. Her main restaurant, which she started with her two sons (hence the name of it), is The Lady and Sons. Featuring southern style home-cooking, this restaurant is a true treat for anyone visiting Savannah. It's location is very central at 102 West Congress Street, right next to the City Market area.
Our trip there was on a Sunday, and during this day they are only open from 11 AM to 5 PM with a buffet-style meal option. The buffet features some of Paula's best known dishes such as her southern fried chicken, BBQ pork, mac and cheese, creamed potatoes and various others. You also get dessert options such as her famous Peach Cobbler and Gooey Butter Cakes. We tried all of these and they are all OUTSTANDING! Leann is already looking to start using her recipes here at home.
The one thing that you need to be fully aware of before eating here is the reservation process. You cannot call up to make reservations in advance. Each day, the hostess stand opens at 9:30 AM to start taking reservations for that day. You must be there in person on the day of your reservation. The line for this though can get to be quite long. While we were there, it was literally around the block, and we arrived at 9:15 AM. We ended up waiting more than an hour to make our reservation and got one of the last spots. I'd highly recommend having someone in your party there by 8:30 AM to ensure a spot for your meal. And if you don't believe a line for a restaurant can be that long, just check out the video below of what it looked like.
